Open Theism in Romans Confuting Calvinist Talking Points

Description: Divine Patience and Divine Limits: A Study in Romans.  Paul’s letter to Romans reveals not only God’s persistent patience, but also the tragic reality of divine abandonment.  When humans repeatedly suppress known truth and exchange it for lies, God responds with a devastating “giving up.”  This isn’t mere passive permission, but an active divine response to human choices - a sobering demonstration that God’s patience has limits.

Through careful analysis of Paul’s argument, we see three progressive stages of God “giving them up” (Romans 1:24, 26, 28), each following deliberate human rebellion.  This isn’t predestined judgment, but rather the natural consequence of persistently rejecting divine truth.  The same God who sent prophet after prophet warning ancient Judah will eventually acknowledge human choices to reject Him.

This study explores how Romans portrays both divine persistence and divine limits, showing how God’s “giving up” isnt predetermined fate but responsive judgment to those who, knowing God, choose repeatedly to suppress and reject that knowledge.
