From Jesus’ Virgin Birth to His Glorious Third
Day Resurrection and Everything in between,
None of Them Can Be ‘Proven’ Beyond All Shadow
of a Doubt—But “Faith Comes by Hearing
and Hearing by the Word of God”
by Mark Mountjoy
HAVE YOU EVER WONDERED WHY MOST PEOPLE doubt that Jesus already came back, even though the Bible said He would? Let’s think about this together.
When we read the New Testament, we see many clear promises about Jesus coming back soon. For example, Jesus Himself said, “This generation will not pass away until all these things take place” (Matthew 24:34). The apostles also wrote about Jesus returning in their lifetime. But here’s the puzzle: some people say, “If Jesus came back, why don’t we have more historical records about it?” This is where we need to think carefully. Are we basing our beliefs on what the Bible clearly says, or are we letting the silence of history make us doubt?
Remember, the Bible is our main source of truth about God’s plans. It’s full of promises and declarations about Jesus’ return. These aren’t vague hints - they’re clear statements. So, should we trust these direct words from God, or should we doubt them because we can’t find enough historical proof?
Think about it this way: if a trusted friend promises to do something, do you believe them based on their word, or do you wait until you see proof? Usually, we trust our friends because of their promise, not because we have evidence. In the same way, believing in a past Second Coming is about trusting God’s word more than demanding historical evidence. The Bible doesn’t just mention this once or twice - it’s a theme repeated throughout the New Testament.
Some might argue, “But if Jesus came back, wouldn’t it be obvious to everyone?” Well, remember that even when Jesus was on Earth, not everyone recognized Him. The way God works isn’t always what we expect.
So, here’s the big question for all of us: Are we judging this issue based on the silence of history, or are we trusting the clear promises in the Bible? It’s important to think about where we're putting our trust.
As Christians, our faith is built on believing God’s word, even when we can’t see or prove everything. The Bible tells us, “Faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see” (Hebrews 11:1).
In conclusion, when it comes to believing in a past Second Coming, we need to focus on what the Bible clearly says. Instead of demanding historical proof for every detail, we can choose to trust God’s promises. After all, that’s what faith is all about - believing what God says, even when it’s hard to understand or see.
What do you think? Are you basing your beliefs on historical silence or on God’s promises? It’s a big question, but it’s one that can help us grow stronger in our faith and trust in God’s word.
